Library Cards

Library cards grant borrowing and computer privileges and are issued without cost to anyone 4-years old or older. Anyone can get a Hawkins Area Library card regardless of whether or not you are a resident of the Village of Hawkins or the surrounding areas, or if you are just visiting. 

Internet Use

Any patron with a valid library card may use the Internet after signing the library’s “Internet Acceptable Use Agreement”. Persons under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian’s signature on this form to gain Internet access. The library does not assume any responsibility for what a child does while on the computers once a parent or guardian has signed the agreement. In addition, any person under the age of 16 must have a parent/legal guardian or caregiver, over the age of 16 within view of the computer screen at all times during internet use.
Patrons are allotted one and a half hours of Internet use. Should there not be anyone waiting for use of the computers, this time limit can be extended.
The library also provides free access to WiFi for those patrons who would rather use their own devices.

Overdue/Lost/Stolen/Damaged Materials

Patrons are expected to return materials by their due dates or they will be responsible for acquired late fees or replacement costs for the items. Late fees may vary depending on what type of material has been checked out. If materials are damaged while in the care of a patron replacement charges will be applied to the appropriate account. In extreme cases local law enforcement may also become involved.

Children in the Library

We welcome people of all ages and have a wonderful children’s department with toys, puppets, and books for little minds and fingers to explore. We do ask, however, that children under the age of 6 be supervised at all times while in the library for their own safety. We hope every library visit has your child asking to come back for more books and more fun.
